Final Project

For my final project we had to make a business card, letter head and brochure for our made up company.
My company is a preschool called "Your First ABC's"

For the 3 pieces I had to do I kept the same color scheme (green, red, blue & light yellow) so that there would be unity between the 3.
I also rearranged the logo (basically the letter cubes) so that I could place it in different places throughout the work.
I also tried maintaing the same line pattern throughout the 3 pieces of work so that there was also unity.
I also used the same font and lettering arrangement throughout the 3 pieces of work.

Coporate Identity Questionnaire

1. What is your business?
My company is a preschool.

2. Describe your business in one sentence.
A dedicated, educational institution for the youngest ones.
3. Who is your target audience?
Parents with young children. (New Parents)

4. Who are you competitors?
Other preschools, especially ones that have a renown reputation and been in the educational system for a longer time. (The Growing Place, Little Learners)

5. What makes them better/ worse than your product/ service?
The other preschool found in the neighborhood are preschools that have been there for many years. The institution I'm inaugurating is a preschool with modern facilities. Innovative teachers with different and new teaching skills.

6. How would you want your image to be seen in two years?
I want my preschool to still be considered an innovative school. It also should have already been recognized and known as a good preschool in the parent audience. (Achieved a good reputation)

7. If your company were an animal which one would it be and why?
My company would be a puppy because the preschool would be filled with cute, playing babies.

8. If your company were a person who would it be and why?
My company would be Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins is a fun nanny every kid desires to have. My preschool will resemble that. It would be the school, that take cares of them, and it’s the one all of them would want to attend.

9. If your company/ brand were an object what would it be?
My company would be legos. Even though it the most traditional toys it’s the one that helps stimulate kids brain.

10. If your customers were a cartoon character, who would it be?
My customers would be the Rugrats. They represent cute funny babies, the ones that would attend the preschool.

Lyric Project

Song: Empire State of Mind By: Alicia Keys ft. Jay-Z

Quote: New York, concrete jungle were dreams are made of

For this collage I got a NYC picture and used it as the background. I got different jungle pictures where I cropped the parts I could merge into the image. I used different cropping tools such as the magic wand and the pen tool. For the light beams I created the shape and then applied the effect screen in order to allow it to blend into the image. At the end I included a complete picture of a jungle over the whole image and lowered its opacity so that it would give it a gloomy forest-like effect.

Graphic Practice

Abstract Lips

For the photoshop practice assignment I just did a funky lip! For the upper lip I used a series of line patterns that I made. For the lower lip I just selected different areas of the lip and colored them with a different tone of red. For the background I just included a collage of different designs. The black dots are from a pattern I made. The blue wiggly lines I made them using a brush that already existed. The horizontal and vertical lines are just a series of shapes I made and merged together.

Self Insertion - Paris 1920's

Back in Time! For the self insertion project I choose a picture of myself dressed up as a flapper for halloween. I looked for a picture of the 1920's in Paris and placed myself in it. I used the pen tool to crop the picture and I used gaussian blur and noise to make my picture seem from the past. In order for it to completely blend in I made all black and white.

Vector Project- Self Portrait

For the vector project I decided to do a cartoonish version of myself. I enjoyed working in this project because I was able to try new tools that allowed me to have a similar effect as the original picture. It was very time consuming and you need to have a lot of patiences in order to have a good outcome. Most of the face shades I did them using the gaussian blur and the mesh tool.

PirateLadyBird

For this project you need to have a lot creativity and artistic skills in order to make the final drawing. The tool I used the most was the paint brush, but I know that there are many other tools that would have helped me make this drawing a lot faster and easier, that I havent mastered yet. I still used a variety of tools such as the pen tool, pencil tool, different stroke effects etc.

Preschool Final Logo

This logo represents a preschool; I choose the name Your First ABC's for my company. I wanted to make it colorful and children like. I choose only 3 colors so that it has a uniform look; instead of having the whole title in the same font or style, I included the ABC in cube form. From this activity i was able to learn new skills such as the letter mesh. I also got to use the usual pen tool and free hand tool to make  part of the designs.

Calligramme

For the calligramme exercise, I chose the outline of the Statue of Liberty. The silhouette is filled with different words that represent New York City and in the center I included the image of the famous "I love NY" logo that represents the city. After doing this exercise I can say I've mastered the text skill; it was very time consuming because of the great variety of fonts there was to choose form.

Company Logo Thumbnails

Logos Critique

Apple:
The apple logo is easily recognized by most of the world. Even though it’s very simple and it doesn't have any words, it achieves it point and it’s well known by its customers. There isn't any direct relationship between the logo and the products sold in this store, but it continuous use of the logo in every device made under this brand, has allowed people to identify the logo and its products.
Red Bull:
Red Bull is an energy drink that doesn’t have any relationship between the product’s name and the actual product. Instead there is a relationship between the image that represents this brand and the name. Even people that don’t know this brand may guess that the product’s name is Red Bull because that’s what is portrayed in the image. It a very simple logo and it has also had a positive effect within the audience.

Domino Pizza:
The Domino Pizza logo doesn’t have any relationship with what they sell. The relationship is shown between the name and the logo. Everybody that sees the red and blue domino knows it represents domino’s pizza. The logo and the brand definitely have had a positive impact with the audience because it has become a worldwide known chain of pizza.

LG:
LG is an electronic appliance company that is known for their high quality equipments. As the logos and slogan stat, the make life good. This is a very simple logo that all of their appliances carry. It not only represents the company’s name, but at the same time it reminds customers of their slogan.

Gatorade:
Gatorade is one of the most famous an energy drinks for athletes. It orange lightning/ thunder image represents the energy or power the can be achieved by the drink. It’s another simple logo, but that also managed to have a good effect with its customers. Even though the bottling of the drink has changed throughout the years its logo stays the same, allowing a bond with the drink.

Project 1: Pringles

For project number one I decided to do the Pringles' logo. I choose it because I could apply several techniques. From the cartoon, pringle man, to the letters and background shapes, I was able to use  a wide range of shapes, lines, and even gradients. This was a very challenging but at the same time interesting project. Even though it was very time consuming and now a day there are lots of programs that will allow us to design a lot faster, I  don't regret having worked with programming. It was interesting to know whats behind those programs and be able to understand how the graphics work.

What You Should Know About Me!

Hi, I’m Ana Sofia Gonzalez! I come from Venezuela, a warm, tropical country at the top of South America. I’m starting my second semester here at University of Tampa and I’m majoring in Advertising and Public Relations. I consider myself a responsible, organized and creative person. By taking this class I want to see at what level my designing skill are found at. I want this class to help me decide if I want to continue my studies through the artistic and designing track or towards the communication and PR side.
